4/21/2005 Tachi-gui SobaThis is a traditional Japanese fast food stand...I guess from late middle age. (Edo era: 1600-1860s) Those stands, typically located in train stations and downtown, serve noodles...soba and udon. They are cheap..3-4bucks, but basically standing room only. Most customers are oyajis (middle-aged men), but nowadays I can see young people and women. I like the noodles, which are healthier than hamburgers. However, one thing American people won't like there is slurping noise!!! It's accepted in Japan, but I am personally eating and drinking silently since coming back from the States. I am not nervous at such noodle stands, but cannot stand people slurping coffee at Starbucks here... |
